I recently caught up with a client of mine that I worked with in the very early days of my insights career. We reminisced about the research projects we partnered on and the media coverage those surveys generated. Our conversation got me thinking about just how much the world of research-driven storytelling has changed since then.
Remember when getting your data featured in a USA Today Snapshot felt like winning the Super Bowl of PR? Just 20 years ago, that colorful little chart on Page 1 was the gold standard for brands using research to tell a story, drive media attention, and prove cultural relevance.
Back then, a well-timed stat and a great pitch could land you a coveted 3-inch square of fame. That was storytelling through research.
Fast forward to today, and the landscape has completely changed. We’re no longer just seeking that one perfect data point. Instead, we’re building narratives. It’s not about the chart anymore, it’s about the conversation it sparks. And while a single stat might still go viral, it now has to live across platforms: in blogs, TikToks, podcasts, investor decks, and brand campaigns. And rather than relying on one publication’s spotlight, brands now own their moment through earned, owned, and social channels.
At Wired Research we live for this continued evolution. We’ve built our business helping brands uncover the kinds of insights that fuel real storytelling, earns attention and drives action. It’s a privilege to be part of an industry that continues to evolve, challenge, and inspire us to think deeper and tell better stories.
